Pre-Match Insights from Punjab Kings' Fast Bowling Coach
New Delhi [India] - Punjab Kings (PBKS) are preparing to take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their upcoming match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, as announced by PBKS media.
In a press conference before the match, James Hopes, the fast bowling coach for the Kings, spoke about the tournament's potential, the recent form of the middle order, and the emergence of young Indian players.
Hopes emphasized the team's approach as they get ready to face the Super Kings, who currently sit at the bottom of the league standings. He stressed the importance of focusing on one game at a time, suggesting that the team should not dwell on long-term outcomes before stepping onto the field.
“The key for us is understanding what can unfold in the coming weeks if we perform well in the next few matches. However, our concentration must be on the first ball of tomorrow night and navigating through this game,” Hopes remarked.
He continued, “Every team in this league poses a threat, and on their day, they can defeat anyone. Therefore, it would be unwise for us to look too far ahead. We need to concentrate on tomorrow's game, deliver our best performance, and then consider what follows.”
Addressing concerns regarding the middle order, which has had limited chances to shine due to the top order's strong performances, Hopes expressed confidence in their capabilities. “They are training hard, and I won’t say I wish the middle order would contribute more, as that would imply our top order isn’t performing well. I prefer our top order's current form and trust that players like Nehal, Glenn, Josh, and Shashank will seize their opportunities when needed,” he stated.
Hopes also reflected on the impressive performances of young Indian talents in the tournament, including 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a century recently.
Praising the new generation of cricketers, the former Australian player noted, “These youngsters, not just from last night, play with a different mindset. They face legends like Kohli and Dhoni without fear. Indian cricket is in a strong position, especially in the shorter formats, to field teams that can compete with the best in the world right now,” he concluded.
